Worst. Ending. Ever.

...And the producers knew it - desperately explaining it was based on a historical event (or at least a revered story) at the end. Not only did they swiftly explain it via narration, but also, put up titles before the credits ran!
As for the sole survivor who the fat, bald poofter in gold ALLOWED to live - I don't think he'd further his father's bloodline - he was clearly a woolly-woofter himself!
Just kill the golden, bald bully and all his men and run titles. Fixed! 5/10.

Huh?

It was an honor to die the way of a samurai.

What would youve prefered?
The shogun forbid them to take revenge. Going against orders of your high command has always bad consequences and if you know anything about feudal Japan and the code of honour of samurais it was to be expected to end like this.

I was almost annoyed when the Shogun interrupted the ritual.

The ending is the only halfway decent part. The rest of the movie is mindless drivel I'm shocked you gave it such a high score considering your seeming disdain for the ending.

That's the bizarre thing. Everything in the movie is so stupid and fantasy-filled yet they felt the need to stick to some form of reality at the end? WTF?

I accept your surrender.

I noticed there were other film versions of this story and I'm assuming they were filmed differently and the ending made more sense, or at least felt more consistent. But I agree, tagged in the end of this CGI heavy Hollywood version it was rubbish.
