How did Bridget get possessed?

They tried to indicate the cut on her face was the reason where the mom cut her, cause the black veins started spreading from it, but the mom also stabbed Beth through the hand and she never got possessed.

Guess i'm just confused about the rules here cause most of the time the person needs to die to get possessed or at least have the entity go flying into them but Bridget just turned out of nowhere for no reason.

Beth was stabbed with a piece of "clean" glass - ie not infected.
Bridget was scratched across the face when her possessed mother misses her eye AFTER the mother drills a hole in her own skull, temple, with the tattoo pen. Ie infected by transfer.

The brother was puked upon and turned, but in the end they are bathing in blood and showers in shredded demon blood and are fine.

It's always been the major flaw with the Evil Dead movies is what causes someone to get possessed. I think it has more has to do with having the will to resist more than being infected like a disease.

When Beth is listening to the recording the priest explains that the possessions happen without rhyme or reason.
