Absolutely not worthy of the Evil Dead name

This film is absolute trash. Obviously Evil Dead 1 + 2 and Army of Darkness are great films. I can even kind of appreciate Evil Dead 2013 but there is nothing here for Evil Dead fans at all.

If it wasn't for the appearance of the Necronomicon, some nods to specific shots and some referenced lines, this could be any old horror/demon possession film. Setting it in a NY tower block? Just wtf? I get trying to reinvent it and not just repeating the cabin setting but the cabin is almost a vital character in itself.

So in summary, don't waste your time. Just watch 1-3 or the series instead. Maybe the 2013 film if you skipped it.

Ash vs Evil Dead didn't need to rely on the Cabin as a character as it had Ash.

Obviously saying that if you remove Ash and the cabin, you remove 95% of what makes Evil Dead, Evil Dead.

I totally agree. Though I enjoyed it well enough, it is certainly the weakest release compared to the original series, the pretty excellent 2013 remake and the Ash Vs. Evil Dead cable series.

A bit of a fumble but still entertaining enough.

I don't understand the praise this movie gets. I thought the whole movie just fizzled out after the incantation scene and became increasingly bad. The Deadites are not very threatening. Even when the Deadites are in the same room with humans they just say mean things and play games like eeny, meeny, miney, moe instead of just attacking them. That multi-arm Deadite at the end was even less of a threat and a really dumb idea for a creature.

Trash !

Completely agree other than the film being absolute trash. On its own, it was an average horror flick, but other than the references you mentioned it has no relation to the Evil Dead. Seems like they just used the name for free marketing.
