I think if would have been interesting if they tried... *Spoilers*

Wrestling before. You have two guys who were trying to relate to each other romantically in order to have sex with one another. The problem is that they don't see each other romantically so things like kissing and long hugging don't work. But at the center of every man is a base almost animal instinct and if you rile that up you have a chance of igniting that flame.

Meaning lots of guys get unintentional boners from wrestling or extreme bursts of adrenaline, had they done some monkeying around I think they could have rally'd.

Of course the movie wasn't exactly about that, just an observation.

I think you have a point there.

If it harms none, do what thou wilt.

I kept waiting for a reference to the wrestling scene in Women in Love. Or an overt reference, since the basketball scene (if not the whole film) seems to owe some sort of debt to Ken and Alan and Oliver.

I agree with several people on this board that there were a lot of unexplored opportunities in this film, and the central concept/conceit raised more ideas than the actors/filmmaker were able to follow up. They end up with a lot of slow-moving and somewhat repetitive "realism," which at some point starts to look like a failure of imagination and/or editing.
