Couldn't Make It Past First 30 Minutes!

This movie sucked something awful! Brand's acting is lacking in so many ways. The storyline is vaguely even close to the original. Storyline drags too slow and the cast isn't anything to brag about. My stand on it sucking stands before and after witnessing the unflattering follow up to a brillant original.

reply

I didn't make it beyond 10 minutes. Russell Brand was basically unknown to me before this. Now I'll know to avoid him in future.

reply

Your reply gave me a good giggle. I watched it thinking "It has to get better than this" and 30 minutes in and there were no signs of any improvement. I did think he was funny in Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler. He only had a small part, but did okay with it. Maybe he just needs smaller roles.

reply

Maybe you need to watch more than 10-30 minutes of an almost 2 hour movie. I am not saying that it was easy in the beginning, he is definitely not for everyone, but the movie did get a lot better. Or you could just go with your brain because 'it did get better than this'

reply

The ponderance of it makes me think of a Jack Nicholson line from my favorite film, in reference to watching more of this film, "I'd rather stick needles in my eye." Glad you enjoyed it.

reply

50 minute mark, and I can barely stand this tripe. I honestly can't see why this twat has a job in cinema. No, it's not the first thing I've seen him in; he just plays the same in every role. Lard knows why anyone gives this guy a job.

reply

I feel compelled to point out that those who do not finish an entire movie have no right to cast a rating based on the entire movie, since I'm sure people go straight to giving a movie an unjustified 1. You can't judge something that you've only seen a portion of.

reply

If 30 minutes into a film it doesn't at least pull you into the storyline, the odds are it isn't going to. I have no hopes that this one magically improved over the course of the film.

reply

I've stopped watching a few movies in my day as well, but I refrain from rating them. After all, you wouldn't just glimpse at a trailer and then be able to accurately score a movie.

reply

This site and others like it will aways contain posts with negative and positive comments, that is the way it is. You have to be wise enough to not allow others to influence your choices. Same goes with films and such getting bad reviews from critics, you take them at face value and make a decision on your own. I have seen films, tv shows, and listened to music that got negative reviews to find that I was outside of those opinions. I never based my choices on what someone else had to say unless I agreed with them. I would not criticize a film from a preview or feel that I had the right to do so; however after taking in 30 minutes of this dull and lifeless remake, I observed enough to know it stunk and odds are the rest of the film did as well without having a miracle out of nowhere come and make it utterly fantastic and enjoyable or even a fraction of that.

reply

That's quite the logic you have there.

However, when you take your first bite of a sh*t sandwich, you probably don't need to continue with the rest of it to be convinced the entire thing is indeed, SH*T!

reply

The other half of that sandwich could be delectable.

reply

LOL....you go for it then.

I am trying to remember a scenario, even ONCE...where I thought the first 1/2 of a movie sucked balls....but yet I hung in there, and at the end, went: WOW, that movie was awesome.

reply

"However, when you take your first bite of a sh*t sandwich, you probably don't need to continue with the rest of it to be convinced the entire thing is indeed, SH*T! "

Thats a pretty funny analogy!!

I came here to post i coudn't past the first 20 minutes! and find this, man this turd may ruin rb career, I even have his books and I don't feel like reading them anymore.

I just stopped when he started saying is a chase like a tard moron, no class, awful script, awful acting, bad directing, very bad directing, this is like a soap opera quality.

reply

After 9 minutes i stopped and got into imdb to see what other people were saying. And i was right. This movie is crap. The most annoying thought is that this monkey's got hands on Katie Perry. Where is this world heading to?

reply

I turned it off after an hour. I used a free Vudu credit and feel like I was ripped off after using it for this turd.

reply

Count me in, too. I feel proud to have made it 40 minutes. It was awful. And yes I will rate this a 1. I've sat through some major stinkers (Oprah's "Beloved", Cotton Mary to name two) where the whole time I was contemplating suicide was a better option than sitting through all of it. I just couldn't take this movie. Russell Brand was horrible. Mirren couldn't match the wit of
Gielgud. It was all just a bunch of crap.

Jezebel! Flauntin' your flesh in temptation's raiment! You will burn. Oh, you will burn!

reply

I too tuned out after 30min. I no longer like Brand.

Saw all I had to see and it sucked, BIG time.

reply

"FYI. Commenting on a movie you didn't see is stupid."

FYI, seeing 30 min or more of a movie = seeing enough of it to comment on it. If it sucks for the first half, there is no need to invest more of my time in it. I know that if it hasn't entertained me by that point, it's not going to.

reply

"FYI, seeing 30 min or more of a movie = seeing enough of it to comment on it."

Disagree completely. Some movies have an amazing third act and many times, a fantastic ending can really change the way a film is viewed. I havent seen Dinner for SHmucks yet though my good friend who I take film recommendations from said "Its really funny near the end but the beginning can be tough to get through, give it about 40 mins and youll love it". While I cant comment on the validity of his statements, I have found many films that were slow to start but reeled me in at the end. SO come on, if you have the time to watch a film, then you have the time...watch it completely and then comment accordingly.

I remember showing a friend of mine Brain Donors(great comedy!!) and as the film went on, she didnt find it all that funny until the ending at the ballet. The whole film leads to that moment and its nonstop laughs for the last twenty or so minutes. She even said the ending made her change her mind about the film. So remember that and give every film the attention it deserves.

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

reply

Sorry, but no. I commented on what I saw of the movie, and I loathed it. If you start eating something that you can't stand or tastes rotten, do you finish it in the hopes that it will eventually taste better? That's how I felt about this movie, so there is no need for me to finish watching it.

By the way, I have every right to comment on what I saw of the movie, which is what I did. I didn't say in anything that I wrote that the entire movie was bad...I said that I watched a certain amount of it and turned it off. So yes, I did "comment accordingly." This thread is "Couldn't Make it Past First 30 Minutes," not "I Watched the Whole Movie."

reply

"If you start eating something that you can't stand or tastes rotten, do you finish it in the hopes that it will eventually taste better? "

Pretty good analogy though its quite flawed. A better comparison would be eating a three course meal..you tried the first course and its horrendous so you decided to skip the remaining 2 courses and then go to the restaurants site and claim that they suck. Of course, the two remaining dishes might have changed your view but you refused to allow it to.

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

reply

OMG, let it go...I'm not watching the rest of the damn movie. I voiced my opinion of what I saw of it, and I don't want to see the rest. As I said before, I never said the whole movie sucked. I said that what I saw of it did, not that I need to explain myself to you in the first place.

reply

Hey, I was just clarifying that your analogy was flawed. Thats all. Take it easy...

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

reply

My analogy suited me fine for what I was trying to say. If you took it differently, that's your problem, not mine.

Stop trying to throw out petty little insults. It comes across as conceit.

I'm finished with this. Too much unnecessary time spent on it.

reply

"I havent seen Dinner for SHmucks yet..." <---flawed (made a capital H)

"...though my good friend who I take film recommendations from said "Its really funny near the end but the beginning can be tough to get through, give it about 40 mins and youll love it". <---flawed (needs a comma between "said" and "Its." Also needs an apostrophe in "It's" and one in "you'll")

"While I cant comment..." <---flawed (needs apostrophe in "can't"

"I remember showing a friend of mine Brain Donors(great comedy!!)" <---flawed (needs a space between "Donors" and the opening bracket)

"...and as the film went on, she didnt..." <---flawed (needs an apostrophe in "didn't")

Yeah, that comes across as assh0lish when people do that, especially when it's uncalled for. But hey, I'm just pointing out your flaws.

reply

Thanks, jdw!!! I actually hate spelling/grammer errors and Im glad that you pointed those out. People take such offense to feedback, especially when its negative. In no way was I rude about it, nor did I resort to name calling, I simply offered some constructive feedback on her use of analogies. But hey, glad you swooped in like Superman to "rescue" her from the evil poster that is...well..myself. LOL

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

reply

You're welcome, but I don't see where anyone asked for your feedback on Linda's statement to you. My feedback (that you haven't asked for) is that you come across as rude and condescending to her, without provocation, and that you're deliberately trying to start arguments.

Not that you asked for the feedback, but there it is.

reply

LOL, well Im glad Linda has someone as devoted as you JDW to "stick up" for her. Im glad she is going to send you more of my posts too, and then you can "get me". Oh and BTW, you are 100 percent right. I DO need to get the last word in and she didnt say that. My bad. :D Have a wonderful weekend guys/ladies.

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

reply

"Stop trying to throw out petty little insults."

Can you copy and paste my petty insult? If it's the word "flawed", Im sorry but that's not an insult. Everyone on the planet is "flawed" and all I was doing was giving you feedback on your analogy in relation to how it corrosponds with any film.

"I'm finished with this. Too much unnecessary time spent on it. "

You said that on your last post too, so why even comment on this one? Need to get the last word in?

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

"I'm finished with this. Too much unnecessary time spent on it. "

"You said that on your last post too, so why even comment on this one? Need to get the last word in?"

Nope. She didn't say that before, nowhere that I'm seeing. So actually YOU had to get the last word in.

reply

Thank you JDW2691, but it's done. If you look at this person's history, you'll understand why this is going on...it's a pattern and practically every one is the "I'm right, you're wrong, and if you disagree with me, you're a moron" defense (literally, he/she does that).

I sent you a PM with a link to a particular one that will explain EVERYTHING...LOL...you'll know what I mean when you see it.

;)

There is not a single action scene in "Die Hard" in the first 30 minutes.

reply

It's not a blockbuster, but it was mindless fun and made me lol numerous times.
It didn't take itself seriously and neither can you.

Of course, I'm not someone who is still suckling the teet of the original...

Define "opinion" then get back to me.

reply

I'm alone on this one, but I LOVED This movie, But I did feel as if It did start off a little slow, I thought it started getting better as we see Naomi and Arthur's relationship grow, that was one of the best aspects for me other than Arthur and Hobson's Relationship and Arthur's drinking problem, which were all handled rather well

Best of 2011:Harry Potter, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Rise of The Planet of The Apes, and Fright Night.

reply

"But I did feel as if It did start off a little slow, "

Totally agree, Rick. Some movies are just like that so If you planned on watching the entire thing in the first place, why not just do what you originally set out to do? It seems like alot of people love to make threads like this and I think I know why. They dont have to explain WHY the film is bad, all they have to say is that "its bad because I couldnt even watch it fully!" That becomes the reason...quite silly really.

Btw, I enjoyed it too!

"1...2....guess who's coming for you..."

reply

This was a really silly movie. Exactly what is was suppose to be. I wasn't a fan of Brand before, but I really liked him and I liked the movie. I laughed many times throughout. It was a lot better than Sucker punch...which I fast-forwarded through most of the movie. I also forwarded through Splice at one point. The only move I've ever stopped watching was The Hills Have Eyes. Who ever came up with that script was smoking crack!
