To all those who feel the urge to slam Russell Brand...

Russell is an extraordinary talent... but also a very intelligent and articulate person. I was - at first - turned off by an "Arthur" remake because Dudley Moore and his performance in the original was just classic... but Russell makes this remake work because you believe in him!

The only problem I had was that they had a man w/ 900,000,000.00 drinking Maker's Mark. He should have been drinking Maker's 46... much better, IMO.

Overall - for a "remake" this is a good film and Russell brings the character of Arthur alive. And "Naomi" is good as well. Perfect for the role.

Helen Mirren is brilliant and Jennifer Garner actually shows some depth as you walk away feeling a bit of contempt and much dis-like for her.

Overall... a good remake. Russell Brand rocks!!!

It helps that Brand is indeed a womanizer in real life as well as in the movie. It's accurate casting, but still flawed.

Lot of words in Brands defence there .... Hes crap though, end of story.

Brand has no talent that I can discern. Why the powers that be insist on shoving him down our throats is beyond me.

reply

Because there are crazy fan-girls out there who actually think he's sexy.

I couldn't make it past the first sentence. Russel Brand is not intelligent or articulate. He's one of the dumbest celebrities in history. He came across a book on socialist theory and decided "Viola! I've got the answer to all the problems! I will fix everything! I am a genius!" -- except his solutions were at the root cause of the problems he seeks to address. The only way anything can be done in society is with the removal of socialism from economic systems, not the increase of socialism. Only a dimwit believes that the answer to society's ills lies in robbing the productive.

The unearned rich are not the capitalists -- the unearned rich are the socialists and economic statists pushing for increased regulation on business, which will only serve to benefit their own businesses at the expense of honest businessmen. A businessman who pushes for economic regulation is either working against his own rational self-interest, or is doing so because he sets to benefit from it. And that is a negative attribute, to sacrifice others for any means, no matter how much screaming about "the common good" you do.

It takes an utter ignoramus to equate wanting to keep your own money with greed. Is it selfish? Not in the negative sense of the word; it is self-interest. But greed, it is not. Greed is the process of proclaiming the wealth of others to belong to you.

Society is based on the voluntary cooperation of individuals. When you cannot achieve your means voluntarily, this is where you should stop. But socialists do not see this, they feel the need to forcibly demand what does not belong to them.

Capitalism is the only system based in the rights of the individual. Free markets -- laissez faire markets, are the only civilized form of economics. Unless the top world thinkers realize this, society will continue spiraling downward.

The other problem, besides Russell Brand failing to understand even the basics of philosophy, politics and economics is that it's the last ditch grasp at immortality of a man who was getting close to becoming the English Pauly Shore. People were getting fed up with seeing Russell Brand. So he postures as a political savant to try and extend his 15 minutes of fame. That makes him look even sadder and more pathetic than the dangerous and ignorant ideology he promotes.

11 years later, and Russell is still being slammed.
