What a wonderful interview! Jon seemed so interested in the film and it sure sounds wonderful... I can't wait to see it! I also enjoyed how it isn't condescending to the Afghan people, they truly are ready to pick up where they left off in regards to pop culture.

I loved this film. Just saw it.
Shirzevor: we have just had this film in our local 2009 Film Festival. I didn't see the Daily Shows interview. I find the reviews interesting, and they in one way modified my rapturous pleasure in the film. The refreshing beauty of the people, so fervently proclaiming that they're "Afghanis" within that great diversity of ethnicity, offered so much that is reassuring in this film. There was no obvious 'editorialising' going on, and the diverse perspectives, behaviours and utterances just sat in context without manipulation. Indeed, that the tacky voting style of the 'Idol' format can be seen by these so-beleagured peoples as a break-through for 'democracy' is ironic and bittersweet - and also helps us critical-thinking Westerners see that indeed some of our 'stuff' is truly banal and shallow.
shareA little confusion here - the Afghani is the currency of Afghanistan, like the dollar. Afghan is the citizen of Afghanistan.
