Funny, Tender, Heartwarming and ... a must see!
Guys, I really enjoyed seeing this film and learning about the lady who really jump-started the phenom of TV sitcoms when ... all these years, I had been fed the MYTH that Lucille Ball and her husband, Desi Arnaz did just that.
Usually I like going into seeing Docs KNOWING something about who are what I will learn MORE.
So, I was a bit trepidatious about seeing film about a complete stranger to me, insofar as I had never heard of Berg (Gee, the tagline's, correct!)
Well, the film quickly endeared itself to me, and the plot moved me right along with it. Tons of 50's TV footage, combined with photos, and wonderfully illuminating stories from Berg's family and legions of fans, made one more fan out of me. I grew up watching 60's "campy" and hilarious TV shows ("Mister Ed" was uproariously funny, always ) as well as older reruns of 50's classics, like "I love Lucy", but, I was glad to know that Berg was also out there and doing her thing concurrently with Ms. Ball.
This film has its tearful moments. I can't tell you what they are, lest the movie be spoilt for you, but ... I really was heartbroken about what happened to the careers of some seemingly totally great actors and totally worthwhile folks!
And, for what??? This country's PARANOIA? Sheesh ... .
How Berg died was also sad.
This lady really and truly gave her all to her art and craft right up until, literally!, the very end ....
Man ... .....
TV and Media fans (film, theater, etc.) should really go to see this film, I feel. I think you will enjoy it immensely. I learnt a lot and was glad to have done so.
