Phyllis Hyman

It was said she died in 1995, but a lady (I believe it was singer Regina Belle) that was interviewed was telling a story - that had to have been a few years before Phyllis died - about how Phyllis stopped one of her shows when a man in the front row started talking on his cellphone. She took it, told the caller he couldn't talk right now because he was at her concert and hung the phone up.

Now I'm fairly certain people didn't have cellphones in 1995, the year Phyllis died, much less years before that. I'm surprised the filmmakers didn't catch it and edit that part out.

It was so sad she committed suicide, though. I had heard of 'Sophisticated Ladies, but I had never heard of Phyllis Hyman. R.I.P.

Cellphones were around in 1995 but they were the huge "New Jack City" brick-styled ones.

Phyllis was one of the greatest singers of all time and she could've been a much bigger star had it not been for her mental illness and substance abuse.
