Who would you like to see them do an episode on?

I'd like to see them do one on some groups or singers from the 90s

"AIN'T NOBODY COMIN TO SEE YOU OTIS!!"--David Ruffin, The Temptations(best tv movie EVER)

reply

Well they'd have to be underrated/underappriciated yet talanted on whoever they do episodes on. The ones I'd to see:

Cherrelle
Pebbles
Stephanie Mills
Meshell N'Degeocello
Teddy Pendergrass
Parliment/Funkadelic
Teena Marie
The Time
Cameo

reply

I've made a thread on Roger Troutman, but Teddy Pendergrass would be fantastic.

They also need to do an Unsung on Teddy Riley.

reply

It may be a little too soon, but I'd like to see one on the 90's group Damian Dame. I know the story, but I would like to hear people who actually knew them and were with them talk about it. I just don't think there's enough info out there about this duo.

reply

Yes! You know, I just found out recently about their tragedy. So sad.

reply

Klymaxx
Mary Jane Girls
Deele
Full Force
Angela Wimbush
Atlantic Starr

reply

Klymaxx and Full Force would make a great show!

reply

If they did episodes on Klymaxx and Full Force, I'd record them suckers.

reply

Klymaxx are getting their own episode! Personally I can think of people who need one more than Klymaxx but then again I don't know much about them. So I'm looking forward to it.

Hmm, I guess I sound like the person in this thread who said Shalamar didn't need one (though that's not how I meant it) which I disagree with. Plus when they came I was just so happy to see one that didn't end so badly. Everyone's alive and well and most of the other epsiodes (particularly Debarge and Riperton's was) pretty hard to watch.

Anyway get ready!

If you didn't know, they're making one on Teena Marie, so one of your wishes is coming true. Also I like your list overall and I really think its likely that all except Meshell N. will be made.

It's sad though, I've posted on this thread three times now.

Also they are doing one on Bootsy Collins. And I said well if they do him they have to do Parliament because some of these people I really didn't realize were Unsung. But I guess if I look outside of my own realm of thought they are.

Someone asked me not to long ago about Pebbles. I know she gave her life to God and she's looking good these days.

I think Stephanie Mills and the Mary Jane Girls are very good suggestions.

Shoot for the moon. If you miss it reach out and grab a star.

reply

I thought of some others:
Ashford and Simpson
Peaches and Herb
The Silvers

reply

ashford and simpson aren't exactly "unsung". they're pretty well known and celebrated and still working. the mary jane girls would be great. they were definitely "unsung". they had a lot of troubles too and they were formed by the king of trouble, rick james (bitch)

Id rather watch a story behind Ashford and Simpson.

reply

There are just so many I'd like to see, but especially Angela Winbush. Such a great voice but so underrated.

Just a saw a commercial for some new episodes and Teena Marie and Klymaxx were included.

Which is why I'm hyped up for the next season!

reply

The Debarge episode was the best of all. I didnt know 90% of what I saw. That episode was touching. The first season was better than the second hands down. I don't know why they did a story on Shalamar at all. Melba Moores story was pretty good.

I know I CAN'T WAIT for the Florence Ballard story. I'm 30 but I read a story about her life and death when I was about 8, and I still remember it! I think it was in Ebony magazine. I've hated Diana Ross ever since. LOL. So I lok forward to this episode.

I'd like to see an episode on:

LaToya Jackson
Temptations
Tammi Terrel

"RIP Michael. I'll Love You For Life"

reply

Tammi Terrel would be an excellent story.

I'd like to add Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, The Fat Boys (dont laugh, they were a favorable part of my childhood), Willie Hutch, and Ephraim Lewis.

reply

They ARE doing Bootsy Collins!!! I'm sorry I'm responding to everyone's post I'm just so excited. Not sure why I'm this excited though.

In any case, in one of my responses I mentioned that I figured if they do Bootsy they have got to do George Clinton/Parliament. But separately of course.

This is the fourth time I've posted on this thread. Ok I'm finished.

Tevin Campbell, even though he was just in the 90s and he has time to rebuild his career, this could be a platform. He is so talented as a singer and he got into it so young.

Oh and also Shuggie Otis (I might make a thread on that). Seriously this cat was too talented, IS too talented. There are some pretty taboo (or once taboo)topics surrounding his reasons for not being bigger (from what I've heard) but that's my true dream episode. I'd settle for Tevin though. I'm just realizing they have a connection and they're the only two people I came up with. Otis wrote and played the original Strawberry Letter 23 as a teen among other things. Talk about child prodigies. Goodness I'm rambling.

The good thing about this show is you can never really run out of people, it'd take forever to do that the way they make and air these specials.

Has anyone heard of that Unsung-like show about actors like Taimak and Daryl Chill Mitchell? I really want to see that. I think it's called Life After.

An Excellent choice! I hope that they take notice.

How about an "Unsung" on Ray Parker, Jr.? That would be great.

The dragon is hungry.

reply

That would be a good episode. I'd like to get his side of the "Ghostbusters" / "I need a new drug" plagerism suit.

reply

First of all, I just love this show. I really love what they have done on DeBarge, Donny Hathaway, Florence Ballard, and Minnie Riperton. I would love to see them do a story on Tammi Terrell, The Sylvers, and Mary Wells. BoBBy Womack would be interesting, too.

reply

They should do episodes on Ready for the World, and the System.

reply

Ephraim Lewis
Damien Dame(sp?)
The Gap Band
New Birth
Terrence Trent D'Arby

Damien Dame(sp?)

I don't recall this duo but this is the 2nd time I've seen their name in this thread. I only know it because they're the first artists noted on the blog for Black artists who died with little or no fanfare. I was saddened to read they died on the same day 2 yrs apart.

from the Blog:

"R&B duo "Damian Dame" consisted of Debra Jean Hurd aka "Deah Dame," and Bruce Edward Brodus aka Damian. They were the first act signed to the "LaFace," label by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Antonio "L.A." Reid. They were famous for the following hits, "Exclusivity," "Right Down To It," and "Gotta Learn My Rhythm." Deah would die in an car accident on June 27, 1994. She was 35 years old. Damian would die on the same day (June 27th) two years later of colon cancer."

Just for the record, I'm not a Dude, I'm a Dudette!

reply

I don't much about them either lol.

Hell yeah! Who knew a magazine interview could ruin a promising career. I'm sure there is more to it which is why we need TvOne to get on this! Tell us more about Sananda Maitreya, formerly known as Terrence Trent D'Arby.

He's still releasing music independently and performing.

Whatever happened to Terence Trent D'Arby?
