Chuck Brown

"Bustin' Loose" was and will forever be a BEAST of a jam. There is just something epic about every element of that song that never gets tired.

Watching the Chuck Brown episode was enlightening and it was nice to see E.U. and the other go-go band members paying respect to their "Godfather".

I can't say I'm a go-go music fan, but certain songs definitely groove. Nice tribute, UNSUNG.

On another note, it was a cool surprise to see the sista behind the scenes of the show during that commercial for Ford. I like how she explained why she wanted to do the homage to Chuck Brown.

And...

WHERE IS EVERYONE? This board has never been this quiet. Sup? 

I grew up in D.C. and I remember Chuck Brown's band the Soul Searchers as the baddest local band during the late 60s and early 70s. I felt this episode did not give Chuck as much of his due. The producers seemed to use the other go-go bands to fill up the time, although, it was good to see Sugar Bear and others talk about Chuck's influence.

Chuck may have been the godfather of go-go, but he was a tremendously talented musician with a rich baritone that rivaled the Prysock Brothers' voices. They Prysock Brothers were unsung jazz artists. (Youngsters, please Google Arthur Prysock and Red Prysock, or go to YouTube for a recording.)

Chuck put out an album in the 90s, called The Other Side, with Eva Cassidy. It was a total departure from go-go and reflected the depth of his talent and his versatility. It had R&B, blues and jazz tunes that showcased both Chuck's magnificent baritone as well as Eva's hellacious set of pipes. (Think of Teena Marie, if you have not heard Eva's voice.)

Thanks for sharing that extra info, wts7741. You know your stuff! 👍

The episode definitely put a lot of focus on the other go-go bands in addition to Chuck Brown. I like how Jill Scott said her piece and mentioned the "It's Love" go-go track on her debut album. I never knew she did a duet with him either.

Yes! We always have the same thoughts! (lol) I didn't know there's a street in DC named in his honor. Chuck Brown Way 1900 block of 7th Street NW where it crosses with Florida Avenue NW.
