If this ISN'T the most depressing film what is?

Have you seen something sadder? I haven't, well maybe Cannibal Holocaust, but that is a very exploitative film.. Okay those two are the most depressing films that made me feel sad after and while watching them.

How about you guys/gals?

There's the 2009 adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. It's an end of the world story. Clouds of ash have blocked out the sun for years, most of the animals and crops are gone, and cannibalism is rampant. The book won a Pulitzer Prize.

Oh yeah, I've heard about it. I want to see it I love Viggo

The kid in it is amazing as well. Definitely a sadder film.

The Road. Oh my goodness. That book was awful…excellent…but man does it hurt to read. I still think this is a sadder story because there is an absolute absence of hope. The Road had a tiny bit. This story has none.

reply

You nailed it. 2 hours of getting kicked in the gut, but I couldn't look away. Great movie.

reply

No, there's some hope at the end of The Road.

I've seen things that would make you want to write a book on how to puke.

reply

Lilya 4-Ever tops any list, imho.

reply

"The Elephant Man" makes me cry.

reply

"The Elephant Man" is a wonderful film. This one is very depressing as well, with the difference just being that it sucks.

reply

This film is way sad...

"I'm here because I believe in a free Narnia."

This is the most depressing movie I have ever seen I think. Just relentlessly bleak. I would put it up there with Requiem for a dream.

reply

I liked it, but I think that it's downbeat third act full of clone angst is one of the reasons it wasn't a commercial success.

reply

I thought Never Let Me Go was life-affirming and of extraordinary beauty, and, thus, not depressing in the least. Sad, poignant, heart-wrenching, but not depressing.

reply

Absolutely!
Just finished watching it and powerful and gripping as it was, it was one of those movies that you know is gonna make you feel sad for the rest of the day. I only hope that the human race never sinks so low as to allow a scenario like this.

reply

I agree, possibly the most heart-breaking film of all time.

Fanboy : a person who does not think while watching.

reply

It may be the saddest film I've ever seen, but it's also the best film I've seen in 10 years.

'The House of Sand & Fog' isn't exactly a laugh fest.
Never Let Me Go is one of my favourite films ever.

Grave of the Fireflies. No competition.

I'm better than you.

reply

Bingo!

Though I would have thought there would be more than one mention ... I guess mind makes two.
