High prices? HAH!

I love the way the US thinks it's oil prices are high. $4 a gallon? I live in the UK. Prices here are currently £1.35 a litre, or about $8.16 a US gallon.

To fill up my car costs about $100. I haven't been able to afford to put more than about a quarter of a tank in at a time for about 3 years.

I agree that the value has been artificially increased to maximise profits. In the UK, we had a blockade at the largest UK refinery (about 2 miles from my front door) about 8 years ago. It brought the country to a virtual standstill. Why? Because petrol had increased to over 80p a litre. We're now not far off double that. In 8 years! For some reason, the more recent strikes and blockades have been poorly attended and far less effective.

It could be argued that someone is pulling the strings to make sure it doesn't happen...

i agree. american prices are far from high compared to many countries. and ia gree that there is certain manipulation, but it is also that oil is acutalyl runing out. peak production is in the past. you can not extract oil as much as you did say 5 years ago. and since there is no alternative, price rise is unavoidable.

There are certainly alternatives to oil. The oil companies, through their lobbyists in Washington, see to it that these alternatives are not developed. When the last drop of oil is pumped from the grpound, the oil companies will be selling electric cars.

Yep. Have to look at Norway for solution. They export oil but they are one of the biggest investors into oil-independancy.
