GARBAGE!

Art&Copy lacked everything that made me want to see it. It felt less Art &copy and more Client&Genius

Its really just a bunch of "cool" Ad copy writers in a dick measuring contest.
Okay we get it, they were the cool ones and now that you made it big you have the cool office buildings, with the COOL art work in the lobby!

It has some interesting stories and side notes ,but believe me they are FEW and FAR between the self gratification this Doc. spews out. If I were to edit this doc down to just include the interesting and actually informative material you would be left with a 15 min doc.

Its amazing how they can go in depth about a client with out explaining 1 stitch of artwork
"We did this to push the boundaries", "I did this because I had an awesome background and up bringing and that made me a super copy writer!", So unless you live the way I lived there is no way you could be as successful.

Not to mention that most of the ads that made them famous were the ads EVERYONE quickly got sick of and ran each ad till it was dead used and printed on a t-shirt in the 99 cents bin at walmart.

I really thought this Doc. was going to be all about the Golden age of Art& copy and how these small creative companies pushed their way through the corporate giants to change the world of advertising. Explaining each step and how much harder each step was in comparison to the 1st.

No, what I got was todays corporate Ad giants pushing their lack luster artwork and ideas that have already grown outdated while stroking their own cocks remembering years gone by and how great they were, and how much better they are today.

I strongly suggest you Skip this one, because in a sense this whole doc was one giant commercial. It barely talked about what ART& COPY truly is in its PRINT form and went straight for commercials. It even gives a nudge on how great Ronal Reagan was in a sicking way. I would really love to see what companies backed this movie and I'm willing to bet the more logos you saw of a particular company was the equivalent to how many dollars that company fronted.

So Congratulations! you just sat through a 90 min commercial, go drink some milk and buy some Nikes, download Art&Copy on your ipod and DONT FORGET TO VOTE REPUBLICAN!

It's just my opinion 2/10.

Yet, they are still held as benchmarks 30-50 years later and we are still discussing them today.

LOL

Methinks the lady doth protest too much. IOW, jealous much?

YOU MISSED THE WHOLE POINT

First of all, this wasn't how to be in advertising with each basic step of how you get to the top. What where you expecting MadMen?! Although they sort of told how to make it in advertising anyway. If you wanted that go buy Ogilvy On Advertising and learn yourself. I have.

Those "cool" people where the pioneers of Advertising. Where else could you learn about the fundamentals of advertising besides THEM?!

They even told you how the Copywriters got setup with the Art Directors which created the Creative Revolution. That's what Advertising is about today. Being Creative.

Have you visited an Ad Agency lately?! I actually HAVE and they all are "cool" as you say it. If you bother to learn about today's ad world the Creatives are on top now and the environment you set yourself up in COMPLETELY HELPS with ideas and the creative process.

If you watched a documentary on Advertising and didn't expect to see ads your a complete idiot.

Judging by the amount you mentioned the male genitalia, you seem to have had other things on your mind while you were watching this film. I hope the coming-out goes well.

Well, judging by what you decide to take out of my review, seems you have gay men on your mind. Good luck accepting your homo erotic tendencies when you use the phrase male genitalia.

I get what you're saying, and it did seem that way during the first act of the movie. But we eventually do get to some interesting stuff about the ads themselves in my opinion . But yeah, at first it was just people stroking their own egos, I agree. I almost turned it off, glad I didn't because it eventually got to some good stuff...

"Did you mean for all those words to come out like that or did they just fall out randomly?"-H.H.

deadender13 ...

Appreciate your comments, will give me a frame of reference as I'm about to watch this Documentary.

Yes, I haven't seen it, yet - but always curious about any 'Documentary' and if it reaches for the Proper Academic Standards that should be expected in this general field of 'Journalism', or if it's just another Murdoch Faux News Wannabe done by the Live at Five News Crew from our Local Yokel TV Station.

My suspicions now rest with the latter - so thanks for the head's up.

To the others commenting ...

Relax - and give more specific and concrete details of your opinions.

For example ...

'IF' this was truly a complete and comprehensive examination of the Art and Influence of Advertising and Mass Media - then it should include the Masterful Work of Joseph Goebbles. Since it could be argued that he was the one in the Modern Age who truly invented, and sold, the idea of "Just Do It".
