Question about ep. 1 --- "The Patient's Eyes"

Genuinely creepy episode, particularly when the mysterious, faceless stranger is chasing our heroine on a bike !

Towards the end of the ep, when Doyle and Bell visit Miss Grace, when she has returned to the "family estate," there are torches or bonfires burning at night on the property. Was there any reason for the torches, other than the fact that they looked cool at night ?
