Dreadful, Totally Wasted Opportunity

The triffids in this film are without question the best ever designed for a film. Joely Richardson's gorgeous and a lovely Jo Playton. The tie-in to global warming ending because of the triffids was a nice touch.

The rest of it? Absolute drivel. Why this writer felt the need to change so much just for the sake of change is mind boggling.

Read the book (or better yet, listen to it with the Audible.com version like an old radio serial). It's a wonderful book. Very thought provoking as it explores mankind's different options after a catastrophe like this.

It didn't need all these stupid changes and mindless additions (a man is really going to survive a plane crash in the way Eddie Izzard's character did?). Terrible.

Beyond that, much of the dialogue is very hard to hear.

I had to watch it because I've seen all the other versions and read the book, but it was a chore watching this rather than a pleasure. Just mindlessly stupid beyond belief. I can't believe anyone involved didn't stand up and prevent this disaster.

Yes Eddie Izzard surviving a 747 plane crash into buildings in central London because he placed blown up life jackets around him, had me in stitches and laughing my tits off! Very funny, as was the rest of this dreadful film.

I was very disappointed by this. Just depressing and poorly done.

Agreed  The 1981 version was way better in my opinion. I didn't like this version at all. I only made it through the first part. The only thing improved to this version compared to the 81 version is:

Widescreen format.
lossless 5.1 audio.
1080p HD quality.

But, as good as those things are, It doesn't matter when this version is so lousy made and uninteresting. So, for me the only version i will continue to watch is the 81 version.

There actually is a 1960 BBC radio play of Day of the Triffids. It's quite good.

Never heard of that, thanks. Do you know what year it's from?
