He did all he could to have Mezzogiorno in the sequel, but she refused.
He was annoyed to a point he stated she will never act in any of his movies again.
I haven't seen the sequel, but I guess it's tough to repeat Mezzogiorno's performance in L'Ultimo Bacio.
