Great to see this back again

What a pleasure to see Casualty 1909 back again. There is so little worth watching these days I was delighted to see a new series had started. Having watched the first episode I can see it maintains the high standard of the previous series. A costume drama which pays attention to detail and has a degree of realism to it - what a change from wall to wall reality crap and celebrity this, that and the other!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I was actually surprised to see this on with the credit crunch and everything, so budgets are low, maybe they made this a while ago? I'm glad to see it back anyway!

I love it, I'm a complete medical history geek so I love that aspect, I like its grittier elements but it still has that Sunday night feel. I'm so pleased it's back, and for a proper series.

Yes I'm a big fan of medical history too - even when it's quite gruesome it has this weird fascination for me!

Definately. Really gives you a sense of the stregnth of character of people in the past, and appreciate how lucky you are - I've had some pretty serious illnesses, that modern medicine struggled with, knowing that if I'd been born even 50 years earlier I wouldn't be here is pretty sobering, let alone in 1909.

You can learn a lot on any time period from how they treated the vulnerable, that includes the sick. Medical history isn't just the history of medicine, it's the history of that society, it's culture, it's politics and it's values, and that's just really fascinating.

I really like this show, my Gran was a nurse, Grandfather a Doctor and watching it with them is fascinating, as even though they were working from the late 40s to the early 90s there are attitudes and rules they recognise from the way the hospital worked in 1909, for example, Matron was god, the amount of cleaning nurses did, it wasn't nurses place to provide opinions and never, ever run unless for fire or haemmoarrage.

I'm really pleased it's back for a proper series.

Watching Ethel scrubbing the floor in preparation for her patient's operation really brought it home to me how hard the nurses had to work in those days. I have great admiration for them.

Like you, I'm delighted they have created a proper series this time - it's a long time since I've enjoyed a series as much as this.

I know, my gran said that she used to scrub so hard her skin was ruined, it's why she wore gloves on her wedding day! I really admire anybody going into medicine back then, especially those who worked at places like the London, there were many more cushier options.

I'm glad we'll get to see relationships properly develop because there's more than one episode, thus we still get the patients and all the personal stuff with neither neglected.

next weeks looks really good, especially the letter nurse (I'm rubbish with names) getting deeper and deeper into politics.

Yeah, it is a really great series!
