Letdown - hope it gets better

I'm not a Casualty fan by nature, but I decided to give this one a try. I found it to be a bore and all over the place. One of the few intriguing characters in the first episode, Dr. Pierce, had about 2-3 minutes in the actual episode. Too much emphasis on the young guy (can't remember his name and doubt I ever will) - he was a bore and not a very good actor. Considering Casualty is one of the more "cerebral" offerings BBC feeds us, I expected more.

mate - you are posting on the wrong board. this is for 'casualty 1909' not 'casualty'. they 2 completely different and unrelated things - the only thing they have in common is that they share similar names and are medical dramas. but after that the similarities end.

casualty 1909 is based on real people and events, and social and political issues of 1909 at the London Hospital. there is no Dr Pierce in any of the episodes. if you do want some 'cerebral' excitement - or even if you just want a really gritty true story and maybe a splash of romance then i couldn't recommend you watch the actual 'casualty 1909' highly enough. i had the pleasure of working on this series and i rate it as one of the best i have worked on.

if you want to know the extent to which this show was researched, you should check out the cas 1909 website. even some of the lines are taken directly from diaries some of the characters kept. each show is themed completely differently too...it's fascinating stuff.

Rohan, your post intrigued me. I now see that you wrote the music! I will make a point of listening with a critical ear next week to the melodic accompaniment!
I will check out the website for further information as you suggest. Tonight's episode was a cracker!

Agreed, I really enjoyed last night, loved the medical ethics stuff, just shows how regardless of the time period medicine will continue to face the same issues. Liked the romance too.
Really looking forward to next week.

I understand the way you describe the program as 'all over the place'.It does lack a sense of 'gravitas',It flutters along like a Butterfly rather than crawl along like a Caterpillar.

except that he was commenting on the wrong show! i wonder if you saw the right show as well...

don't confuse 'casualty' with 'casualty 1909' or any of the casualty 1900 series. it was just a ploy by the bbc to capture an existing audience. there really is no relationship what-so-ever.

to say that any of the episodes 'lack gravitas' makes me suspect that you did in fact see the wrong show.

each show is extremely heavy on gravitas. last nights had a doctor who wanted to research nerve regrowth have his arm cut open and a nerve severed! last week's had a desperately sad romance that ended in tragedy, the previous week you would have had to clean out the back of your TV set for corpses, and the first episode featured a 12-year old who had been beaten up and forced into prostitution by her father and consequently had gonorrhea into the bargain. not to mention a little boy who dies on the operating table because of too much anaesthetic.

how much more gravitas do you want?

Mr Stevenson, what I really meant is in the way the program is constructed, through it be the editing,or the stories within each episode which intertwine in a confusing manner. Each scene isn't explained in a clear manner, often jumping from one situation or character/s to another without much of a resolve to the whole story/setup as a cohearent. For example,I didn't realize Dr Head wanted his arm cut open until we see it at the very end so therefore hearing him talk about something shoking to his wife in a letter form was very confusing to me.
By the way, last time I watched Casualty was when Robson Green was in it!so I'm not confusing the two.Shouldn't this program be called 'The Recieving Room 1909' instead!
