Ugh Lauren

I just started watching this show on Amazon. I watched the whole first season and just started the second season and I absolutely cannot stand Lauren. She is such a B1tch.

Haha yeah, this is a topic that has been discussed a lot on these boards. I hate Lauren too. She redeems herself A LOT near the end of the show and she does have very good moments and moments where you feel sorry for her and whatnot but I still really hate her character lol

Yes Lauren does redeem herself toward the end. She was not so much evil as she was damaged. She was not a one dimensional villain she had layers to her.

reply

Not nearly enough for me, she doesn't.

reply

I agree, Lauren's "redemption" was good but it wasn't enough for all of the sh!t she constantly pulled. Whenever Lauren did something horrible, the writers would try to make us feel sorry for her like with her mother dying or her heart condition and yeah while it changes her from a one-dimensional villain to a villain with layers, more of the time it just pissed me off because she never faced comeuppance for her actions, the writers just made something bad happen to her so the other characters would feel sorry for her and forgive her.

Exactly! And that's why she has very little character development. She's hardly ever confronted with what she's done wrong, and when she is, it's easily swept under the rug.

Her dad and Summer try to support her, but are more enablers to her spoiled, poor-little-rich-girl attitude. That's why I disagree that she has layers, plural. It was really just a few issues rehashed in an almost formulaic way.

reply

Amen to both last posts! I thought she went through amazing character development AND remorse in the 1st season, but after that, they threw in the towel.

reply

Because feeling sorry for the awful things you did is not the same as karma.

reply

Its really the only thing about the show that I hate. How the HELL can someone who has done all the things Lauren has done still be able to call these girls her best friends? Its the most unrealistic thing ever.

She never has to deal with any repercussions from her actions. The heart condition was a damn joke. She still ended up making the Olympic team. She does one terrible thing after the other, each one more horrible than the last and its always just swept under the rug. I'm re-watching the series now and I just get so irritated all over again.

One of the many reasons I only watch the 1st season.

reply

I completely agree "dollish" That's reason why I won't watch season 3. Lauren is a psychopath who treated people like crap. Yet, she still makes the Olympic team.

I'm annoyed we didn't find out what happened to Emily, Damon and their baby.

I'm glad the show got cancelled.

Lauren is way more than your average b*tch, she is a Complete psycho, she manipulates everyone around her by putting in the water works and apologising and coming up with some sob story.
But the things she did were absolutely crazy,
If I had a friend like that, there is no way in hell I'd forgive her like everyone on the show does.
I actually thought the thing Wendy did with the drugs, is exactly something Lauren would do, maybe that's how Lauren figured it out, cos she probably had considered doing something similar

I'm watching with my daughter and I can't stand that Lauren girl. Every time she does something to her teammates, I want to smack her

Even though the actress did a great job and she has some nice character development here and there, ...the fact that she basically was guilty of attempted murder from the very first episode and NEVER had to suffer any consequences made her irredeemable in my eyes and I never could warm up to her as a result.

reply

With the exception of the last season, it seemed like everytime she took a step towards being likable, in the next episode she took ten steps backwards and was terrible again. She didn't become truly likable until the final season.
