Plot hole?

Or too far a reach to suspend disbelief? We are left at the end to believe Quaid has gotten away with everything and that poor girlfriend will be left to rot with a corpse locked away in the basement. But wouldn't someone at some point have called the cops on him? At the very least, the girl with the birthmark would come to and alert the authorities?

It's still soon so it makes sense in the movie, but of course we can imagine a few days later at most, someone will notice 3 persons are missing and eventually someone will link them to him (because students know they worked together on the school project) and he will get caught for sure.
