JOHN'S QUOTE AT THE END

Want to say that I enjoyed this documentary very much. I know some gripes are that it didn't have a point to make other than to praise the man and his movies. For me, the interviews were fun to watch and to see all the people who had worked with him say a few words. He hadn't given an interview since 1999 so I kind of new he wouldn't grant one to a few young filmmakers. Though I give them credit even though I wouldn't have attempted what they did. I give them an A for being ambitious. As far as John's quote at the end that said something about him trying to recapture the spirit of teenagers for the last fifteen years. (I'm assuming he was talking about other scripts he was working on, maybe not) But if so, maybe he didn't want to lower his craft to the gross out comedies today that were making 100 million. Maybe he figured viewers wouldn't enjoy his style of work in today's lifestyle. That's my speculation. Part of me also believes that John may have watched the DVD. Not that it matters now as he has passed on, but perhaps down the road his wife would be someone to shed some light on his final years.

Anybody else love DUTCH?

I agree with you completely. It saddens me when I think of cinema for teenagers today, and girls are becoming obsessed with Twilight. There really isn't anything like Pretty In Pink, 16 Candles, Breakfast Club etc... out there for teenagers. I think that John realized this and definitely was disgusted with the way Hollywood has turned out, and decided to not make anymore films for that reason.
