I thought I was the only one that was getting sick of these faux-indie films. How do they get such high ratings too? It seems like the only people who enjoy these films anymore are upper class yuppies who were NEVER into the original indie scene when it was first around. And is it me or do Seth Rogan, Appatow and Cera have a monopoly on rom-coms and "indie" films these days?
The awkward adult-playing-a-teenager thing is dead and buried. Their little quirks over a Bell and Sebastian song have risen to the height of pure cheese!
I am sorry to all of the fans of this film, but you guys have to admit that they are MILKING these type of films in Hollywood.
Isn't it true that before when indie films were not getting recognized, the scene belonged to film school kids in Austin, NY and LA? The indie scene was always pretentious but it was very underground and VERY POOR. Now it seems like the only people that actually watch these films anymore are the rich upper class snobs that rejected these films when they weren't popular or very young kids who came in when the yuppies in Hollywood took it over.
Now these days, my friends from Austin who were a part of this scene before just watch old films and PIXAR!
Charlyne (the girl who made this movie) was Michael Cera's girlfriend. Seth Rogen is a buddy of Michael Cera, at least during the shooting of Knocked Up and Superbad (which were shot during simular times If I'm not mistaken).
Charlyne is also in Knocked Up, obviously thrown in (either because Rogen thought she would fit in the scene, or because she asked to be a part in the movie).
So, Rogen shot a small scene in the film simply as a favor to the girlfriend of that guy he kinda knows. Cera is not part of the Apatow Crew, but he knows them. Which is also why Martin Starr appears in the film. Charlyne played his girlfriend in Knocked Up, so she knows him too.
u are 110% wrong...u have no idea what type of film this is, as u haven't seen it, obviously. This is a mockumentary, like The Office. The character is playing himself, but he is not really himself. He's not playing a teenager, cuz in real life he's not. Again, to reiterate, he's playing HIMSELF. Hollywood does not have an overabundance of mockumentarys so you are again, completely wrong. Go see the movie before u judge it or in the very least, educate yourself about the genre, cuz u're wrong with the little info u do know. Seth Rogen's in the movie for 5 minutes at most. Do yourself a favor and read before you comment, so you don't end up looking stupid, and post on the correct message boards, about movies you actually have a clue about.
Do you promote the film or something? I think that most of the people in here have the right idea about this movie. It's pretty evident that it's another faux-indie marketed crapfest. No one is looking stupid by posting their opinions about a pathetic film.
I don't promote the movie and I don't think most people here have the right idea about the movie. It's blatant that they don't since they're(you included) completely fudging the genre. That's like saying, "OMG, Eternal Sunshine is such crap, I'm sick of Jim Carrey's rubber-faced slapstick comedies, that rely on the same formula as Yes, Man and Liar Liar" You're assuming that because the actor in those movies is in this movie, it's the same plot/genre/cliche as the last couple of movies they played in. You're posting opinions about what you think the film is about, not what it really is about, so yes, that does make you look stupid if what you think it's about is completely off.
