Andre Leon Talley

does what, exactly, apart making an utter fool of himself??

reply

I don't know, but he looked uber ridiculous when he was playing tennis with that Louis Vouitton towel wrapped around his neck.

I thought he was just showing his designer duds to show how rich he was. He was a bit of an embarrassment. He doesn't do sh*t, just talk trash and try to show his money through his clothes.

I'M WITH COCO!

reply

I am thinking that HE is "The Devil" wearing Prada. What a total tool. Jeesh

you have now officially lost your mind!

reply

Im 100% with you.
Ive no idea WHAT he was doing there.
USELESS.

reply

He was ridiculous.

i enjoyed the scene where he was playing tennis and was hitting the back fence on the fly with the ball. it reminded me of the scene in bachelor party where tom hanks was drilling tennis balls over the fence and into the neighbor's yard.

reply

He crashed Valentino's movie as well. But he's funny in small doses.

I threw that sh-- before I walked into the room!

In this particular film, Andre came across poorly and as being merely being Wintour's complete "Yes Man" and sycophant which I thought was sad.

But yes, Leon Talley is a rather flamboyant fellow, off camera, and he has a real following among fashionistas and others in the clothes-know, so ... I wouldn't make short shrift of him, quite yet.

I don't care for the amount of MINK that he wears, myself.

He is an editor-at-large. For those of you that don't know what those do:

"An Editor-at-Large is a journalist who contributes content to a publication.

Unlike an editor who works on a publication from day-to-day and is hands on, an editor-at-large will contribute content on a regular or semi-regular basis and will have less of a say on a specific field such as layout, pictures or the publication’s direction.

However, unlike a writer they are allowed their own preferences in the content they have to generate and don’t have to pitch their ideas to the main editor. They also frequently come up with ideas for other writers to research and write."At large" means the editor has no specific assignments, but rather works on whatever interests them."

Basically he can write whenever and if ever he feels and he is ridiculously over payed. I can see why people love him and why people hate him. He's a fun person but he thinks he has the absolute best style (he doesn't, God how gaudy is he? NOT in the good way haha) and stuff like that.

reply

Thanks, xboxfreak! I hadn't know of the exact nature of his job at VOGUE, before. Now, I do.

Talley's gaudy as all get-out ... You're correct.

And speaking of being ridic overly-paid ... just HOW MUCH moulah does he make per year? You can send this response to me in a PM here, if you care to do so. No need to make money matters public, in my opinion .

I'm not sure but you can tell he is lol.

reply

Ahh, so you have no idea how much the guys makes per year, eh?
OK ...
I am most curious.

Thanks for the info. I am now slightly less clueless on the subject. What an interesting world these people occupy.

Thank you, very much for your reply. I too can see why Andre' is loved and hated.
He's fabulously fun, while annoying, as one other person put it in their reply, he's ok in small doses.

I personally love Andre' Leon Talley but can't stand his taste in clothes but also believe he's perfect for an Editor at Large, and a stereotypical icon in the fashion world. Vogue would not be Vogue, without Andre'. And you're probably right, he likely is grossly over-paid.

Andre Leon Talley is specifically what he appears to be; an outside voice of fashion. And he's exactly what he should be in this film. If the fashion world was all Anna Wintour, we'd all be subjected to skinny little dresses and stick people. If they were all Grace Coddington, the fashion would take a backseat to historical reproduction. He's the outsize personality of fashion that says "Fringe is fabulous," and a very thin sliver of Vogue readers - the outrageous people or the unusual people - will adopt this 'craze' - and inject that anti-fashion energy back into the system. In scientific terms, he's the chaos theory.

But he's also a big boring bump on a log in this flick. :/

reply

He's appearing as a judge on Tyra Banks' next top model show, and he's every bit as annoying there. He's really an insufferable snob, and I still have no idea what he does at Vogue.

Fashion is fun, the clothes are yummy, but in the end it's really all kind of silly. Very good documentary though, and I just loved Grace Coddington. She was a real beauty in her modeling days.

reply

His job title gives him his sense of self-importance, but his contributions to Vogue consists of his ramblings of his fabulousness. The whole lot of them make me sick.

reply

Having been in high fashion, I was always curious what ALT value was. And even after watching this, I still don't know. Talking big talk, running around in fashionista mode and now judging Tyra's show is basically a high-style Ms. J (also from Tyra's show). I think Anna keeps him around as the Royal Jester.

reply

It made me sick to watch designers like Vera Wang cater to his fake-fabulousness. Makes me not like Vera Wang.

reply

I thought he lit up the screen whenever he was on. The tennis sequence was great. He's just the kind of guy you'd want to have at your party. Just a fun character, I reckon and I agree with dyer9380 calling him the chaos theory.

reply

he is an idiot

reply

I see a lot of ALT bashing,.....As a person that REALLY IS in the fashion industry, many of us know EXACTLY what Andre Leon Talley does at Vouge. He is the eyes and ears of this coveted publication. Anna Wintour is a beast about firing people, if you make your self insignificant for one second in her presence, your GONE and replaced within 30 minutes. Some of the hottest trends, new hot designers from all over the world, you REALLY think Anna discovered these people,..........(have you seen how her personal style,..its atrocious!!) Andre' , Graces, and several on the vogue team are the talents that drive this magazine. Editor at Large means just that, his job is to discover what is new and hot,..what new designers are coming up on the scene internationally, what new fav locations that celebs love to frequent, etc. Anna W. is a business woman with an 'eye' for fashion and style, but she would be NO WHERE without this black man.

To further prove my point, if he was so worthless, why would this 'Iron Maiden" keep him around? because she knows that without his eye for style, taste, and exquisite pinpoint acumen concerning international pop culture, she wool be NO WHERE!. Celebs on the cover of Vogue, it is often thought that it was Anna's idea,.....WRONG ALT proposed it 2 years before, and she shot it down, he proposed it again, this tim with a fabulous shoot of a noted celeb in hand, and she said yes,..she would give it a try,..the first celeb was Gay Icon Liza Minnelli in the 1983,..the same year that ALT was hired,....( you really want to tell me that Anna thought this up?, I think not). ALT is the 'behind the scenes' backbone that makes up Vogue's influential style.
The Vogue protocol is this of those that understand how this fashion periodical works:
Andre-discovers
Grace-refines and develops
Anna- the business acumen make it all happen

They are all a team, and one should not be discounted in place of the other.
