Unbearable

I watched this last night. I generally like cheesy Christmas movies, but this movie was awful. Most cheesy Christmas movies have a villain, but the villain in this movie was the mother and she was the main character! Now don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing the actress at all, just the writing and directing. The actress did a brilliant job of doing exactly what I'm sure they told her to do.

She was equal parts disinterested in her kid AND overbearing. She didn't want to have to actually interact with him or do anything with him, but he wasn't allowed to leave her side. No wonder the kid kept running off! Ordinarily, I would think the kid needed his hide blistered, but I quickly realized that he didn't have much choice, unless he just wanted to spend his whole life standing silently next to his mom while she was on the phone. At one point about 2/3rds of the way into the movie, she said something like "I'm gonna put a leash on that kid!" And I was like "I'm surprised you haven't done that already!"

My favorite part of the movie (pretty much the only moment I actually liked) was when the kid said something to her like "You know what mom, why don't you just go back to working. At least then you'll stop trying to ruin everything." It was perfect. She couldn't let him enjoy one damn thing about being a kid. Why did she breed, exactly? She obviously doesn't want to be a mom.

Anyway. I'm glad it's over. It could have been a cute movie, but I just couldn't get past how horrible she was as a mother, and listening to her shout "Mason!" every few seconds was about as fun as tuning into Jerry Springer and watching everyone simultaneously scream at each other. Yippy.
