I haven't seen this full movie so I missed the beginning and I turned it on in the middle and I noticed that Ben and Gwen (to a smaller extent) call their Grandpa just "Max."
Why is this? Did I miss some reason he gave in a part?

That's a very good question, I also didn't get why they did this, barely calling him Grandpa at all just a few times in the movie. Was this also done in the Alien Force series? If not, seems like the characters were written in an oddly different light. How I was brought up, not calling one's parents or grandparents by a proper parental term is a serious sign of disrespect. If I were to up and go calling mine by their first names, I'd prob get slapped upside the head.

Um , Ben just calls Max " Max " to assert his individuality . This started in " Alien Force " when they found Max . Gwen calls him " Grandpa Max " until the very end after the debacle with The Hive gives her a newfound respect for Ben`s individualism and leadership capabilities .
Yea, most of the time in the cartoon they call him Grandpa or Grandpa Max, I thought this was weird too.

I've only started watching Ben10:UA, so I don't know if it's has become common practice to just call him Max but in the original series and Alien Force it was always Grandpa Max or just Grandpa, not this just-max nonsense. It sounded so out of place and became really distracting.
