A shame, really. (SPOILERS)

Fantastic production values. (Seriously; the tableaux were quite stunning.)

A nice enough premise.

But too many elements that just fell short.

-I have no beef against Mr. Efron in general, but he was totally wrong for this role. Almost entirely without expression. And no transformation at all by the end.

-I understand now why some felt that she was too old for him; she plays older than her actual years, he plays younger, so there's a this awkward gap.

-I didn't see the necessity of making Blythe Danner her grandmother and not her mother. I found the whole age thing (grandson and not son) a distraction.

-Keith's death was unnecessary.

-I was creeped out by Logan not telling her the truth when he had the chance(s). (And this coming from a mega-romantic who's done some questionable things over the years in the name of LOVE.)

Like I said, it's a shame that this wasn't crafted better. The story deserved more.

Have you read the book?

I disagree about Efron being wrong for the role. His character was supposed to be more introspective. He acted with his eyes. I could believe him as a Marine.
