Courageous, But Boring

Been meaning to see this since it came out. Two reasons: I find Abhay Deol the most likable member of his clan. I thought again when watching just how PAINFUL it would have been if Bobby played Dev. But Abhay is very comfortable.

The other thing is Mahie Gill. She is the best addition to Hindi movies in some time. Both her looks and technique.

Now, I will say that the attempt to portray Devdas in a contemporary way is pretty gutsy. The story has become iconic, I think. It would be so easy just to change costumes and faces and stick with the original plot. So the many things that were done to make it more than that simple were admirable.

But still...............despite Abhay, despite, Mahie, despite the creativity, I just found it boring. They just stretched it out for some reason. There really was no necessity of meandering around. I'm very disappointed that I feel so much good was wasted.

As for Kalki Koechlin, I'm just not gonna get why directors are convinced she's some big addition to the corps of actors in Mumbai. She doesn't move me whatever. And she's so ungainly and strange. It is like they went to a dance club in Germany and thought "if only we could get this atmosphere in our movies by getting the right actress." She reminds me of expressionist movies.

So no better than 6 out of 10 points for me.
