Bad horror movie (SPOILERS)

To be honest, I watched this film for one reason: David Nykl. Of course, he's the first one to die - two minutes in - so that kinda sucked!! Like many others who have posted here I think the film started out with some serious potential. A missing father with some evident emotional problems. A daughter determined to find him. A bunch of notes and clues about a brutal murder that he was trying to solve that may have gotten him killed. And a strange curse on an island just offshore. Really, there was a lot there that could have been developed, created, honed. But...of course...this really was just a slasher flick, so the formula calls for pointlessness.

It's too bad though. There were some decent names in the script that could have flexed their acting muscles more if they had been given more to work with. And while I agree that darkness is a staple of any horror film, at some point it's just boring because you can't see what's going on. The frenetic camera movement and quick cuts also are not scary at all: they're annoying because you lose what you're supposed to be freaking out about.

Fulfilling the slasher-flick quota? Not so much. Some blood and gore - the worst with David, really. No topless hottie. First death is 42 minutes into the film - bit of a late start. Jump starts? I didn't really see any. It's almost as though they started trying to make a movie, then tried to salvage it into a slasher flick, and then gave up.

I'm sure I'm just echoing everyone else here. In the end, it's background noise.

I'm an antifreeze-in-the-steak, flipping-a-helicopter kind of Copley girl.
