I think the scene was intense in every way and well acted, but seemed to come out of nowhere and took away from the rest of the film. I mean, the premise is a killer who makes his victims choose from two terrible options. I think it was a mistake to throw the worst possible as the first event. It should've been saved for the final act somehow. At least to me the rest of the attacks and any other horror the film threw in, felt almost like nothing after that first scene.
A passionate pianist to lose his hearing or his fingers? A beautiful, self-centered woman to lose her eye vision or be horribly disfigured? A kid killing a cute dog? While those are of course horrible things, they really can't compere with what he did to that teenage girl and her family.
Also, the killer's relation to the main character was a bit too predictable.
And I think the story would've been somewhat more interesting if it focused on the teenage girl or her little brother instead of jumping to a completely different character and storyline.
I liked this film, but I think it could've been done a lot better.
