Based on the Book 'Star Wars' on trial...?

I've read the book "Star Wars on Trial", which is actually a quite good series of essays from notable Sci-fi authors, that this film seems to be based on. Not sure if it's the same, just put on film but David Brin seems to be attached to both. From the negative reviews either the people here aren't objective fans of Lucas willing to observe his failures as well as successes, or the film is a big departure from the tone of the book which seemed very fair and well thought out.
