This movie actually impressed me in one way

I've never in my life seen a movie where every single major character is completely unlikable, and yet, the film is massively popular. That is actually impressive, I must admit.

I mean, you have Bella, who, in the scene where Jacob finds out she's going to marry Edward, pulls the ultimate manipulation to end all manipulation. She had been flat out telling Jacob to STOP trying to break Edward and her up the ENTIRE movie. So, when Jacob accepts this and is ready to move on with his life, she STOPS HIM. What the hell is wrong with this girl??? She got what she wanted!!! He will never try to court her again. But no, she can't bear not having two guys pine over her, so she tells him to kiss her, despite admitting like two minutes later that she loves Edward more. That would be like a person goading their friend who finally overcame alcoholism into having a shot of hard liquor just because their quitting drinking meant they wouldn't hang out anymore. She also has just about every single character in the movie give her very sound advice (her mom, Rosalie, Charlie, Jacob, Jessica, etc.) and she just ignores all of them. Bella Swan, professional sociopath. And idiot.

Then you have Edward, who, during this movie (not even counting all the horrible things he's done in the previous two movies), does the following:

--Only agrees to turn Bella into a vampire if she marries him, which she agrees to, and repeatedly tries to weasel out of this manipulation because he's.....a nice, Christian vampire or something???
--PURPOSELY sabotages his girlfriend's truck to prevent her from seeing a male other than himself
--Says he was prepared to break a centuries-old treaty...because his girlfriend dared to speak to another boy
--Gets pissed off at her for possessing a handmade bracelet from said boy
--Lies to her over and over again
--Withholds very important information about the Volturi (specifically Aro's plan to enlist Alice and him into the vampire mafia, which basically means the rest of the Cullens' deaths) from the rest of his family because...........reasons???

Could this guy be any more of a creep???

And then we have Jacob, who was far and away the best character in the previous movie, but gets his character assassinated in the most epic way imaginable. He goes from sweet, best friend (who SINGLE-HANDEDLY pieced Bella back together after her mentally and physically abusive, vampire ex-boyfriend up and abandoned her and left her vulnerable to evil vampires) to a complete douche who sexually assaults Bella when she repeatedly tells him she has no feelings for her.

So, yeah. Bravo, Stephenie Meyer and Co. You all made a movie with completely horrible main characters that just abuse each other in spectacular ways and have practically zero redeeming qualities and you got hundreds of millions of dollars out of it. As a published author myself, I am legit impressed.

The movies didn't always do a good job of explaining things as they actually happened in the books. If you haven't read the books, borrow them and then note the differences between book and movie ... then post if you still feel the same way, or have other things to say.

Yeah. Charlie is the only character that remains likable throughout the franchise, but that's only because the filmmakers fixed him for the movies.

In the books, his character gets derailed almost as much as Jacob's. In the books he becomes a simpering moron who microwave's canned food and practically fist bumps Jacob after he assaults his daughter. Yikes.

I don't share your view point. Bella plainly tells Jacob, she wants him around, because she is lonely. She tells him clearly she understands he wants something she doesn't. She tells him clearly she wants him around for selfish reasons. As you said in your post, Bella repeatedly tells Jacob, she doesn't love him. And he kissed her, not sexually assaulted Bella. I found all three characters to be "realistic".
Edward has been lonely for over 100 years, so I can understand him acting nutty, when he falls in love. Jacob was a sweet best friend, until he turned into a wolf. His actions make sense for a 16 year old, who finds out he is a wolf and his crush loves a vampire.

In the book, it was full blown assault. It's not a quick peck like in the movie.

In the book, Jacob grabs Bella, holds the back of her head so she can't pull away, kisses her for far longer than in the movie, and when she tries to fight him off, he presses her body right up against his.

That is assault.
