Vampire sex. Why?

If this has been asked before I apologize, but I haven't seen it. Anyway, my question is: why do vampires have sex? It obviously isn't to reproduce, so do they do for emotional gratification? Getting any physical pleasure would require having a functioning CNS and a functioning CNS would register pain as well which they seem to be incapable of. Unless they can turn pain sensations off at will?

They have sex for the same reason most people have sex ... orgasms. And it turns out that a male vampire can indeed impregnate a human female.

The normal reactions of arousal are still present in vampires, made possible by venom-related fluids that cause tissues to react similarly as they do to an influx of blood. Like with vampire skin—which looks similar to human skin and has the same basic function—fluids closely related to seminal fluids still exist in male vampires, which carry genetic information and are capable of bonding with a human ovum. This was not a known fact in the vampire world (outside of Joham's personal experimenting) before Nessie, because it's nearly impossible for a vampire to be that near a human and not kill her.

I would think because of the same reason they listen to music, engage in hobbies, drive fast cars, run fast, climb high, stalk their prey...

They derive sensual pleasure from it.

Cats are an interesting study. They are cute- mostly. But they are killers. Perfectly designed to be the scourge from hell so far as mice and birds are concerned. And they are almost unbelievably sensual. They seem to truly enjoy moving in their bodies, feeling their bodies rub against things and they also seem to know what they look like as they do all their cat things. As if they are enjoying the aesthetic of being a cat. Like they are keenly aware of the meta-experience.

I think vampires are usually portrayed as being very sensual creatures. It's just part of their vampire-ness.

I think if they can hold on to all those other human interests after they have turned, it makes sense that they might hold on to other interests as well.
