5 millions is pretty good

or maybe not good, but its not horrible either. most cable shows would kill to get 5 millions. so i dont get why she got cancelled right away.

i know =) fox goes from nr 4 in the fall season, to nr 1 in the spring and overall, all thanks to Idol (which just happens to be my favorite show haha)

but seriously, NBC:s current top show is Heroes at 8 million. thats why i thought rosie at 5 million wasnt so bad. but oh well.

Five million is pretty bad for a network show, and particularly for a heavily promoted special.

For reference ... Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies were both cancelled, and had weekly ratings better than that. Pushing Daisies was averaging more than 6 million viewers a week.

Most cable shows do not have to justify millions of dollars in advertising and production costs. You're only looking at a few hundred thousand dollar or less for a cable show's ad revenue, so they need to put less viewers up.

National advertisers need to reduce their cost PER viewer cost down to pennies per person in order to afford it. For what NBC charges, 5M viewers will not get the PPM down far enough to justify the cost. NBC can easily put something else in Rosie's timeslot to meet the necessary numbers.

Sorry Rosie and fans, but frankly not that many people want to see Rosie. She would have done better on something like Comedy Central, but they weren't about to take the chance, as she's done nothing of significance lately. Would've been better to do this as a live tour and build up an audience first. Of course it could have been a complete flop (which it was) but those are the chances you take.

You also have to realize that of the 5 million viewers, how many of them would be repeat viewers and how many just showed up because of their own curiosity, sense of fairness, or pre-show publicity?

Also, back before cable became a serious competitor, 5 million viewers for network broadcasters was not a significant amount. But today with cable competing against network broadcasters, 5 million viewers can be significant.

I have visited other forums and read postings of people who actually enjoyed the show. As for me, I was shocked and somewhat stunned that this show aired. At first, I thought I was being too critical. But the next few days and weeks seemed to indicate that I was not the only one. Since Rosie is listed as the Executive Producer of this show, she apparently has more to learn about the psychology of the viewing public.

Finally, I am not a Rosie basher. I watched her on cable way back during her stand-up comedy career and even watched her talk show.
