What kind of movie is it?

Did anyone of you people have watched "The Mill and the Cross" ? I saw the trailer and it looks very very artistic movie. Any opinions? Is it a religious movie or what? I am tempted to buy it on BD.

Honestly, it's not like any other movie I've ever watched. The first half moves fairly slowly, with almost no dialog...just scenes of peasant life which eventually come to find their place in the painting that Peter Bruegel is creating. It's visually very stunning. It's got religious aspects to it, but also political and philosophical.

It's about a painting by Bruegel, "Procession On The Way to Calvary," and a take on the symbolism in it and how it relates to the situation in Flanders at the time it was painted (Flanders was under Spanish occupation at the time). It portrays what may have been the artist's thought process. It's not a conventional film in that the imagery is deliberately painting-like rather than necessarily realistic, and that dialogue is kept to the bare minimum (the emphasis is on the visuals), and there's very little plot in the conventional sense. It's not a religious film per se but given the subject matter there's a lot of religious symbolism and references.
