What exactly is this movie about?

The plot doesn't explain much - they could've made it more clearer W/O giving the ending away; it just needed MORE of an explanation. Is it based on a book? As one said the title does suck but I like Kate B. and love love Nick Notle, so if anybody has more info about this movie please let me know - many thanks.

The plot summary doesn't say much because good movies can't be summed up in a tagline, I guess. There's definitely a court drama/thriller element to the movie but most of all, it's about a lawyer who's down on her luck, a (mostly) recovering alcoholic trying to get her life back together, trying to get her kid back, after a suspension from the bar and betting it all on a case that turns out to be more complicated than she thought it was.

It's more about redemption and her finding herself again than about the case or anything really. If you like Beckinsale and love Nolte, you should give it a try.

I would agree with your summary. Well done.

Unfortunately, the film is big on character development and a tad short on plot development. It's not creative or original or charming ENOUGH to compensate for that, though I do feel that Beckinsale's performance is very good.
