What Cate did in the end was *SPOILERS*

the worst thing a lawyer can do and made her just as bad as the murderer in my eyes. This movie was so outrageous that I now hate it and it sends the wrong message.

It was interesting for about 40 minutes until we realise that the trial is going far too easily for Cate. So then we have to just sit and wait for the inevitable.

All too neatly tied up, so we ended up with the mainstream TV movie the synopsis threatened it would be, but with added effing and ceeing.

Palprincess, I also ended up hating it, but by the time she did what she did at the end, I'd stopped caring.

I just remember what Lane Smith's character said in My Cousin Vinny.

But my clients were guilty as hell. Finally, after getting this fella off some serious charges for the fourth time, I tell you the truth, my conscience got to me. I'd be serving justice more by putting the guilty in jail. That's what I've been doing and I'm a happier man for it.

the ugly girl [the one who kept on getting 'raped'] WAS guilty. and of much worse than what she was charged for.

OH THANK YOU GOD! THANK YOU SO BLOODY MUCH!!! Basil Fawlty

Guilty or not it doesn't matter. I would venture to say most clients are guilty but the point is that the lawyer has a legal duty to vigorously fight for their client and get them the best deal no matter how they feel about the client. The entire justice system would never work if all of a sudden attorneys decided I will only defend the innocent. This movie is wrong on so many levels!

Ooooh, you wicked, wicked monkey! Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire

I agree.

The system has some flaws but what the character Kate did was so immoral AND illegal. Whatever about Lacey, she was a murderer but her lawyer is under a duty to defend her.

I honestly don't feel too bad about the other case where they were falsely blaming some Mexican guy for murders and criminal activities just to make him look bad. That law firm were deliberately lying so Kate just told the truth there.
