I'm somewhat bewildered by the number of people commenting here who take one impossible scene or situation from this movie and harp on it as though that one thing ruined the concept of D.M.

It's a cartoon people!

Cartoons routinely create impossible devices for the characters to use or be hurt by. Cartoons routinely create impossible situations for their characters to get out of or more often, be stopped by.
