Unbelievably Good?

I liked the movie but some things felt ...off. No crocs/gators in the wild and other threats out there (hyenas, hippos, cheetahs, etc..). I get this lion is dangerous but so are other animals. I couldn't believe how it ended.

You bring up great points. If I was the dad, hiding in the water from the lion would've been the least of my worries at that moment lol. The greatest threat we saw outside of the lion was a rattlesnake, which ironically was one of the biggest deterrents within the movie.

I enjoyed the movie Pretty thrilling. But yes many scenes, where I felt what the heck were they doing.Sadly that must be why the movie has poor reviews.

It was silly, but okay for what it was. The lack of other animals was one issue.

The only thing I couldn't get past was the "fight" at the end with Elba and the lion. It's this super hell-beast, but it can't manage to inflict serious damage on a human in how many tries? It was like he was wrestling with his pet Saint Bernard.

There were definitely other animals shown. For example, when the white friend goes looking for the lion, rifle in hand, he's standing at the edge of some water and we see a couple crocs slide into the water....(which was probably meant to remind us of just how much danger surrounded them....above and beyond just the lion).

Other random animals are shown....like the scene where Idris climbs up on the top of the Land Rover to look for the lion/shadows. While scanning his surroundings, he sees other animals scatter (I believe one was a wildebeest).

I think people get a certain image in their heads (based on movies, etc.) that Africa has big, wild animals walking around all over the place. In reality, there are vast open spaces of dried earth and dessert....and you might not see an animal for miles. (Plus, many of them would probably choose to stay out of site).

This was a very good popcorn movie. If they went for 100% realism, it would have made for a pretty boring movie.

I didn't say there were no tother animals shown ever. There were a few points where it seemed like there should have been more wildlife around. Again, not a major complaint on my part. The final fight was my real issue.

Definitely silly and more and more implausible as it progressed towards a climax. So typical of the bad screenwriting coming out of Hollywood these days.

Elba should have been dead at least halfway through that terrible mauling at the end, especially when the lion appeared to be so indestructible, having just survived not only the careen with the vehicle down the mountain side, but also the fiery explosion shortly afterwards. And then it managed to quickly track him and his daughters down, in spite of the distance he had put between them with the frantic truck getaway. When one daughter asked, "How did it find us?" he simply dismissed it as, "It must have tracked us across the mountains." In other words, it took a short cut and had a much keener sense of smell than a bloodhound. Also, why would it have let his friend Martin live after the initial attack, just temporarily staring him down, then inexplicably wandering off? After all, this came on the heels of the animal having decimated almost an entire village, both people and livestock.

This was a stupid, badly written movie.

reply

Yeah he should have been killed. Apparently the lion is clever enough to use Elba's friend as bait, but not smart enough to bite Elba anywhere near the neck. If he had mauled him on the neck or facial area he'd have been done for.

I did see one gator/croc not that one gator/croc makes a difference lol. Just saying
