Based on the true story of the famous capoeira fighter that goes by the name Besouro, meaning beetle, this beautiful film unconventionally depicts his life, weaving fact with famous myth. When the heads of the National Guard in Brazil kill Besouro's coach, the town separates as tensions rise between the native black community and followers of the Colonel Venancio, head of the National Guard. Besouro starts a guerrilla warfare, setting fire to plantations, and destroying machinery while Venâncio's bodyguards retaliate against the town. It is up to Besouro to stop this unjust warfare and keep the spirit of capoeira alive.
