Mattie Fae looks and sounds like a man

Am I the only one who thought that aunt Fae looks and sounds like a man?

^You're the only one.

Seriously, do you not know who Margo Martindale is? She's an incredible, award winning actress. She a larger woman, but she certainly doesn't look like a man. Many of the characters she's played have led a 'tough life' (see her in Justified, or in The Americans), she's portraying that role.

Re Margo M I agree she is superbly talented. I believe she won an award for her performance in Justified I will watch almost anything she is in.Just revisit her in this as she pours liquor down her throat and says she is having a cocktail ..

That thought never entered my mind.
The actress, who played Mattie, is and has been fantastic in every part she has ever played. Whenever I see her in a movie, I have to stop and carefully listen because she always plays a very important figure , even if her part is that of a supporting actress or character actress or a minor part in a movie.

Her voice sounds "feminine strong" to me.
Her looks are not "conventionally Hollywood beautiful", but she does not look like a man for sure & is pleasant to look at. (To me).

She's great. She doesn't pull punches about her looks. I've heard her interviews. She plays the matronly looking older woman in her roles. She isn't really that old.

I think I know where the OP is coming from, or at least possibly.

Back in the mid- '70's, there was an episode of "All in the Family", where Archie Bunker receives mouth-to-mouth from a cross-dresser. The actor (a man), bears a strong resemblance to Margo Martindale. He even sounds like her. I noticed this immediately, although I don't think Martindale is mannish.

I searched for that clip, yes, their voices sounded similar, and perhaps there is a slight resemblance. However, I don't find MM to be un-feminine.

reply

I didn't think she was unfeminine. When she was speaking to Julia Roberts' character toward the end, she was lovely.
