Watching this before the movie

Would it be okay to watch this without spoiling the movie for me? Is this the same story?

reply

Uh...Yes. They are both based on a graphic novel from the '80s.
If you watch this before the film, I guarantee you will be disappointed by the film.

reply

Take Harry Potter for example, would you rather read the books first or watch the movies?

Personally, I think the film adaptations are just for fun, to see what you've already 'read' via a new medium. If you expect too much from them then 9 out of 10 times you will indeed be disappointed that the 2 and a half hour film did not do a graphic novel series justice.

So in the case of Watchmen, I'd say you should 'read' the comics first, and enjoy (or be disappointed by) the movie. The comics include a lot more details left out of the film, obviously, so if you think about it, watching the movie first kind of gives spoilers to reading the comics ;D .

I've read the GN many times over and saw this motion comic before seeing the film. While not as good as either of these I was still not disappointed by the movie. It was surprisingly pretty good in fact. So yeah...your logic fails.

I've heard that the movie is pretty close to the source. Reading the story in advance would ruin the surprise for me.

Reading user comments of fans I always noticed that they are always hindered by knowledge and expectations. Myself had that same experience with X-men 3. Nothing that happened in the movie comes even close to the stories and charachters of the comics. I would have probably enjoyed the movie more if I had no knowledge at all about the X-men.

For me it will be more logical to watch the movie first and then watch this motion comic or read the graphic novel for more details. It will enhance my experience even further.

I agree with you for the most part, but this graphic novel is so good (best piece of literature ever!), that i believe the movie would spoil the book rather than vice versa. I have seen/read all three things (in order - book, motion comics, movie) and have thoroughly enjoyed all.

P.S.-The movie is close to the source, its the best possible (reasonable)adaptation that could happen.

Some people posted episodes of the motion comic on the internet and I'm also watching the movie right now. So far the movie is almost the exact same thing as the motion comic right down to the dialogue.

i like the movie then i buy this and i like, expands the universe, in my opinion first saw the movie then this and i like, and now i start to reading the Gn and i love it...

all the fans from all the adaptation always have problems with this for example i read the DaVinci Code before the movie, then when i watch the movie i found just ok, not good or great, i think that for the filmmaker always its too dificult for make happy everone....

this makes the movie look weak. shows that a good adaptation can be made.

I totally agree, I liked the Motion Comic way more than the actual movie.
Too much little things here and there got lost, and that really didn't benefit the movie-version at all (it actually felt boring to watch sometimes compared to the Motion Comic).

How can you say the movie is dissapointing compared to this, are you high? This is a lame try to put the novels on the screen, the animation is bad and the voices are all the same person.

I would rather watch the movie or read the comics but this TV series suck.
