Hated this movie when I saw it in theaters last year. Bought the DVD and re-watched it the other night, and it was *beep* awesome. I think "Gangster Squad" might very well be this decade's "Cobra."

Just watched it again on HBO. Same effect for me as well. Much better second viewing at home.

Yeah. A dumbed down LA Confidential.
I was really hoping the end shoot out would have showed a difference between the cops-- most of them vets, all of them experienced marksmen-- and the gangsters who shot from the hip at the cyclic rate. I would have loved to have seen Brolin's character with an M-1 Garand firing from cover and dropping thugs one after the other. But it was just a typical Hollywood gun violence orgy.
