Comic Book Action Schlock

I can't be the only one that felt like I was watching one of those over the top comic book turned action films. A stellar cast (save for one) with less than stellar dialogue and performances. I love Sean Penn for the body of work he built and this seemed so far beneath an actor if his caliber that I couldn't help thinking it was either a favor or for laughs.

Actually, watching this thing reminded me, strangely enough, of Dick Tracey. Had the same vibe about it, but plastered with digital gore that seems to be all the rage these days, unfortunately. I had no expectations so I was not disappointed, I just can't help feeling like this was a potential great that misfired on so many levels.

Yeah. I just caught this on cable. Struck me as a dumbed down LA Confidential.

It is a great action movie. What, are you looking for a documentary?

Just something with a little more substance and a lot less flash and dash. Better explained in my OP, but this felt entirely two-dimensional.
