Ambassador of Lebannon/Writer killings

Why exactly did they kill those two? I got lost in the middle of all that.

It was the French ambassador and his killing was Carlos's retaliation for the French not releasing Kopp and Breguet, who were arrested after the bungled attempt to bomb the Al Watan Al Arabi HQ in Paris.

I think the writer was killed by Carlos's enemies. His death was not explained but was one of a spate shown on screen in a matter of minutes. He was writing Carlos's biography and presumably certain countries did not want it published, especially Syria.

Why do you refuse to remember me?

The writer, Assem al-Joundi was NOT killed. When Carlos was in Syria, after the assassination of the French ambassador, his Syrian handler gave him an update on the shooting of the writer.... He said the writer survived the shooting, was treated in Moscow, but lost one of his eyes. Carlos then responded, "That's what happens to traitors!".
