Other action/biopics set in 1970s Europe?

I'm interested in anything going from crime films to movies depicting terrorism in 1970s Europe.

So far, I've seen:

Mesrine
Romanzo Criminale
Munich
Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex
Carlos
El Lobo

If possible, significative, relatively big-budgeted movies (not like Buongiorno Notte or Piazza delle Cinque Lune). I'm sure there must be SOME interesting biopic about The Troubles that escapes me! (closest thing I've seen is Fifty Dead Men Walking and In the Name of the Father, which plays mostly within a prison).

Sorry for the delay in replying, just noticed your question.
One that springs to mind is called EXPOSED.
It stars NATASIA KINSKI as an American farm girl (with a German accent)who somehow gets involved in the fashion business and terrorism in europe in late 1970s/early 1980s.
Some of the scenes of bombings and shootings seem to be based on CARLOS's actions,eg the DRUGSTORE bombing in Paris.
The film is hard to follow but is full of pretty girls, but it is not on dvd in Britain at least.

There are a few German films, such as SECOND GENERATION and a film about 2 sisters in a terror group but I can't recall what it is called.

YEARS OF LEAD,with SHARON STONE has a RED BRIGADES/ITALIAN background.

I'm having a hard time trying to find Years of Lead, I searched everywhere, tried Sharon Stone's entire filmography, tried "anni di piombo", and nothing came up, are you sure you got the right name/actress?

reply

Sorry it is called YEAR OF THE GUN.
YEARS OF LEAD is what the Italians call this crazy period of their history.

The Odessa File. I caught it on TV one day and have seen it twice. Jon Voight is the main character. Here is the storyline I copied from the imdb listing:

"After reading the diary of an elderly Jewish man who committed suicide, freelance journalist Peter Miller begins to investigate the alleged sighting of a former SS-Captain who commanded a concentration camp during World War II. Miller eventually finds himself involved with the powerful organization of former SS members, called ODESSA, as well as with the Israeli secret service. Miller probes deeper and eventually discovers a link between the SS-Captain, ODESSA, and his own family."

They're more Drama than Action, but I can recommend 2 decent movies about the Troubles:

Watch Sword of Gideon, a 1986 made-for-TV film that tells the same story as Munich, but in a more suspenseful spy thriller fashion. And if you're interested, you may also want to check out Four Days in September which deals with the 1969 kidnapping of U.S. ambassador Charles Burke Elbrick by the leftist MR-8 group. The movie takes place in Rio de Janeiro, but has the look and feel of some of the Europe-based films mentioned here.

As it was in the beginning,
So shall it be in the end,
That bullsh*t is bullsh*t,
It just goes by different names.

"The Long good Friday." LOVED IT. Bob Hoskins, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan's first film! He was sooooo young.
