I really thought because the camera lingered on his penis I was supposed to think he was a secret Israeli double agent.

Because the actor was. I think they wanted to present some kind of sexual element to his terror. That it made him feel sexually empowered or whatever. Also to contrast that to how he became lazy and a bit chubby in Yemen.
