I thought he was doing a Michael Caine impression. I found it really odd he wouldn't opt for an Australian accent which must be easy for him to revert to.

I thought it was Michael Caine speaking when it first started. It took me a few minutes to reconcile it in my head that it was Mel.

Yea, I thought he sounded like Ray Winstone as well. Thought I was only one until saw this thread.
He's really great with languages. When he was practicing Hamlet lines, he said he wanted to make sure the intonation was correct. Most people don't even know what that means :/
