The thing that killed the show was

The fact they didn't make it an hour show. If I made a show that was about 22 minutes long..I wouldn't expect people to watch it. The show had potential but I mean how can you tell a story in such short episodes. Stuff was just dismissed...like how Bianca and Chasity hated each other because of Joey and then all of a sudden they talked to each other again. We still had to find out about Patrick's family. I was surprised that we were actually able to see Kat and Patrick's relationship at the end but not Bianca's. It really wasn't a finale..so now we will never know anything.

Agreed, most of the 1/2 hour shows are getting canceled on this channel, you'd think they'd realize it!

I also think it didn't help that they named it after the movie because that put people off from the show immediately. A lot of people were like LOL WAY TO RUIN A GREAT MOVIE so they never gave the show a chance. I don't even understand why they felt the need to make a show based on a movie considering it didn't follow the movie much at all. The show is more like an alternate reality of 10 Things. They should have just given it a name of its own.

reply

I totally agree. If they had a different name for the show and different names for the characters, I bet they would have gotten SO MANY MORE VIEWERS. Kind of a dumb move on ABCF's part.

reply

i like the name. 10 things i ahte about you...its catchy and i like saying it to mi sister : )

While I'm a fan of the show, I don't think it's really a valid argument that a show can't last if it's only half an hour long as opposed to being a full hour long. A lot of half-hour shows (particularly comedies) have lasted many seasons. "Ten Things" was a comedy after all, or a dramedy since it mixed those two elements. If it was an hour long, I'm afraid it would've risked turning into Secret Life... not a good thing.

"Are you an idiot?"
"No, sir. I'm a dreamer."

reply

Agreed. The fact that the show was only 1/2 hour had nothing to do with its cancellation. The show was well-written, and the two sisters had great chemistry. This is just another example of good shows being taken off the air while other lesser shows endure. There are many examples of this over the years, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the length of any of those particular shows. Whatever the reason for its cancellation, its length was irrelevant.

reply

Probably because you can only take high school hookups, breakups for so long. Degrassi worked. But at times it felt overdone. But... I would have loved if it was more than the 22 min. I loved the show and I wish it wasn't being cancelled.

reply

Very much agreed venus236!
They tried to mix in some of the subplots from the movie like with the "Dance Little Sister" and "Fight for Your Right" episodes (which was kinda a lame idea to begin with) but in the end the whole show was basically an AU of the movie. Like something off a Fanfic site. Obviously much more than just a Fanfic story 'cause this show was brilliantly written(at least when it came to dialog), but you catch my drift. Although there are some very elaborate Fanfics out there...
Anyway! back to my point...
They should have given it a name of it's own.
I think it defiantly would have helped.
I shall miss thee 10 Things. ABC, you have been boycotted by this fan! Take that!

Yes, they could have named it something simple like "Sisters", "Surviving High School" or "Not Getting Pregnant" or something. I thought it was stupid that they kept the main characters names and show name when it was so different.

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis, you can't trust people.

reply

Yeah they should have named it different.

reply

A rose by any other name . . .

See what I did there? lol.

Seriously though. Even if the name was different, too much copied from the movie in early episodes.

reply

Maybe the fact that there wasn't enough under age teenage sex.
I'm not sure how they call it a ABC "family". Family of perverts maybe.

reply

i also think it should have been longer than 20 min. not sure if that's the reason why not many people watched it.

You can't swing a dead cat in hollywood without hitting someone with a vampire script

I don't really think it was the length of the episodes, but, rather, that from episode 12-15/16 there wasn't too much going on. I felt like it was just plain and then I watched the last 4 episodes and loved it again. They probably lost a lot of viewers that way. Also by only making 10 episodes in a month and a half and then another 10 months later kind of made less people watch it. I really love the series though!

What killed the show was the horrible casting (especially after watching the movie). I know they shouldn't have cast look-alikes, but these people do not look the parts (of their movie counter-parts). The dynamics of the characters was completely changed. Why spin off a movie into a series if you're gonna change everything. And the PC of making the sub-characters of Michael and Mandella who were together at the end of the movie both be gay, betrays the movie characters. These are the reasons why it was killed.
