The original is one of my favorite movies of all time and I thought the remake was terrible. For the record I'm not someone that was against remaking it in the first place. I was actually looking forward to it.

Unfortunately you know the plot now so that might take away from the experience.

Remakes are not always terrible. But, in this case, it's kinda hard to top the original. That's my problem with this one. Seeing the original, the remake is too weak in comparison. But, as a stand-alone movie, it's not so bad.
The original is just better. Beter cinematography, the plot is a little bit crazier but kinda serves well the general feel of the movie, the characters are more charismatic, the soundtrack is awesome, everything just works.

What baffles me is the budget difference. The original had an $3 million budget while the remake had 10 times more, $30 million. And cinematography, acting, soundtrack, are just better in the original.

I'm all for remakes, but for movies where you can bring something over the original. With Asian movies, I personally have problems due to cross-race effect, as I can't distinguish some characters. But that does not happen in Oldboy, as the main cast is pretty tight.

It's just unnecessary remake.

You must watch the original, it's a masterpiece.

i recent time there has been some great remakes and reboots, of course despite all of those crappy ones, but this one in particular might have been the worst one yet.

I find it watchable. I don't regret the 1h40m spent
